Time to get out of this funk!

OK...I cannot seem to exercise for the life of me...I want to sometimes but I am mostly not motivated. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHhh!
I want to start going back to the gym and I have countless excuses for not going...My weight is creeping back up and now I look pregnant again!
I will weigh myself and post a picture of my current weight maybe tmrw.
The intention is to finish the year healthy at a weight of 185 lbs!

Whats happenin?

Saturday,Sunday and Monday I went back to solid foods. Tuesday I am once again drinking juices and having a vegan meal for dinner such as lentil soup, brown rice, mangoes. Looks like I will be travelling to India coming Tuesday and so I will not be on the juice feast...just not practical while travelling esp with two little ones. I hope to exercise while I am there and also keep a check on my carb intake.

Day 6

My juice fast has been going well. Yesterday I had an evening meal of 2 cups of lentil soup and 2 hard boiled eggs. In the interest of full disclosure I also had two Klondike bars!! Not the best choice but ice cream is a weakness especially the kind that has a hard chocolate shell surrounding it!
What was my weight today morning right out of bed?

This fast/feast has not disappointed and I can imagine those who are on an exclusive juice feast will lose a lot more.

Day 4 and still at it

OK. So after day 1 I modified my juice feast a little. I added some lentil soup for dinner because I realized that I was not producing enough milk for my baby. Yesterday I had lentil soup again for dinner+ 2 hard boiled eggs. I think I am making sufficient milk now. Also when I remember I add some fenugreek powder to my juice.
Juicing is going well. Today morning my weight was 206.8. That is an encouraging change for me.
The only thing I buy organic are the apples. I hope to keep seeing changes.

Day 1 was successful!

It was not the easiest thing to prepare lunch and dinner for the fam and resist eating any of that. Also I am still nursing my youngest one and I was concerned the whole day whether I would be producing enough milk. I think she was ok. I will be adding some Fenugreek to my juices today to help with milk production.
I had no coffee, no tea, no solids at all!
My weight yesterday morning out of bed was:

Mango, Cucumbers, Apple, Carrots.
Throughout the day I juiced Collards, Parsley, Cilantro, Watermelon, Cucumbers, A bag of carrots, Mangoes, 3/4 Avocado, Another apple, 1 Tomato.
This is not a walk in the park. Ofcourse I go to the bathroom a lot more frequently and I do have some mild headache today morning which I understand is expected.
I am continuing on today. How many days I go will be determined by how I feel each day. It is one day at a time.
I was inspired by the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.

juice feast/juice fast 10 days

I am starting a juice fast tomorrow, August 1,2011. My weight has not moved in over a month, maybe because I have not visited the gym in over a month or maybe because my diet has not changed. In classic me fashion I have to go to the extreme and do somthing like a juice fast. This will be my first time and I hope this works to shift my weight a few points down on the number scale. Honestly I am nervous that I may cave into food.
I will keep my blog updated on my day to day challenge on saying no to food and yes to juice!

Veered Off!

Depite having worked out fairly regularly in May the scale did not budge and the reason is most likely my indulgent diet! NOt good but atleast I maintained and did not give up. However over the last week I have not worked out because I feel discouraged. Its time to stop moping and get with the program and give it my all this week.

#23 & Buckwheat Noodle Soup

Where have I been for the last 4 days?! I have been here and so busy with life. I did not even weigh myself until today morning.
Weight 218.2 lbs
I worked out on Saturday- Spin class
Worked out Monday- Treadmill- 40 mins
                                   Cross Trainer 10 mins
Worked out today- 6:30 PM Spin Class
After the spin class I ate egg white omlette with the soup broth and few veggies and NO noodles.

I am glad that my weight has not increased since I have not been working out and my food consumption has been careless!
Today I had a Dunkin Donuts low fat blueberry muffin( my weakness), Coffee
Then for lunch I had Chinese...Garlic Chicken, Brown Rice and Hot and Sour Soup(SO good for my sore throat)
Dinner 2 packs of veggie chips and Tea!
Choice of food not the best what so ever!!
NO working out today either.
The good news is I feel better health wise...still coughing a little BUt better! I hope I can find it in me to make it to the gym tmrw.

Todays diet has been BAD...I did not eat anything unhealthy...I stuffed my face with bananas, other stuff, because of sleep deprivation...6 month old baby has been sick...If you are a parent you know how that is.

So I went to my gym today and got my Body Fat% measured...It is 36.6%
Obese! I am happy it is not 47%
Now my goal for this year is to go down to 29% atleast.
This is a health issue.
I ate pizza for a late lunch and then no dinner.
Breakfast...Brown rice+veggies+egg whites.
Some Almonds as snack.
One cup coffee made with soy milk.
Exercise--low intensity pilates.

BMI

I thought my BMI was around 34. Obese range, I know!
My husband has a machine that calculates BMI and it showed my BMI as 47.8!!!! What is that?? Is there a term for that?! I chose not to believe that. I believe what the BMI calculators on the web tell me.

I missed blogging yesterday...just got busy with baby and other stuff.
Yesterday's weight was 220.6- Ate ice cream and no exercise.
Today's weight 219.6
Went spinning in the morning. I struggled through the class.
Ate ice cream again.
B/f Egg white omlette sandwich+ 2 pancakes.
Had lentils, brown rice, veggies and chicken sausage for lunch.
Mushroom, peppers flat bread pizza and fish sticks for dinner.

Had a 9:45 AM blood test today to get my thyroid hormones and TSH checked since I was off the medication for over a month and it was just time for the test.
10:30 AM b/f Egg white omlette with some skim mozerella
Snacked on some almonds, kiwi
3/4 bar of dark chocolate
Snacked on Orange
Dinner later than usual, 8:15PM pasta with meat sauce and veggies...did not watch my portion here!
Also no exercise
Was not feeling good today...will be seeing my gynec on Thursday...I feel there is something wrong with me gyneologically!!
I truly never want to see 220s again but I get the feeling I will especially since I have not exercised...I have been unable to!

Dinner _8:40PM_----------A whole beef burrito with guac+ pico di gayo+ some tortilla chips with salsa
                            Diet coke--- first time I have had that in over 10 years!!!!!!!!! I was stressed out or else I would have never ordered a diet coke.
THE redeeming thing for me is that I started going to the gym today....I had 'frozen' my membership and 'unfroze' it today and took a 6:00AM spin class.
I think my weight will be through the roof tmrw because of my DINNER :(

Challenge

Tomorrow March 9, 2011, I am starting a challenge for myself. The intention is to blog daily for 50 days. In the blog I want to mention my morning weight first thing out of bed, my diet for the day and exercise or the lack of it.
I intend to blog before going to bed.
At the end of my 50 days I will have a record of how good or bad I have been in regards to what I ate and also exercise and others can also assess the record.
I hope I have had more good days than bad at the end of it. Also it would be great if I could shed some lbs!
I will be counting down the days so my first blog will be #50.
I have a doctor's appt tmrw...haven't seen a physician in a while. Did see my OB in September. I am out of my thyroid medication now for over a month!

Update about why there were no updates.

I have been baaaad! Foodwise and exercisewise. It started out with me not working out for a few days and then my diet went off track and to top it off I pulled a muscle in my back below my scapula. I gained 2 lbs. NOt Thrilled at all about  the weight gain. I hope to get back on track ASAP. My back is better, still sore but better.
I am thinking about applying to grad school to study biotechnology.
When I do not blog regularly you can be almost sure I am doing bad in regards to my weight loss efforts.

Reveal, well almost and Smash, Yikes!

My family and I went to the mall today and indulged in Smashburger Burgers and Fries! It was so good. My weakness is Burgers and Chocolates. This was the first time we tried smashburger and we liked it. Other good places I have been to are Wendy's (!!), Bobby's burger place, Five Guys and White Mana.
I did not work out today but did workout yesterday with a P90X DVD and also 20 mins on the treadmill.
I am posting some pictures of me taken today. The jeans in this photo did not fit me last year( I was pregnant) and the year before (I was just heavIER!)
The shirt is a basic long sleeve XL t from Gap and the jeans are Venezia, Sz 20 from Lane Bryant.

Things I like to eat presently.

I have been trying with a fair amount of success to eat healthy. Things like lentils, veggies, egg whites, brown rice, soy milk, walnuts, edamame, dark chocolate and such wonderful stuff. Don't get me wrong I relish foods like pizza, pasta, BURGERS (had one on Sunday) and chicken nuggets but I do enjoy the healthy foods. Also eating at home, the meals that I cook where I can control the salt and oil really makes me feel good on the inside.
I have never counted calories and I don't think I ever will. I try to eat healthy foods most of the time since I started this weight loss journey and these days I try to eat minimal at nights and also try to eat 2-3 hours before bed time. I am having a tough time avoiding snacks close to bed time!
French Lentils. I love these lentils...very hearty and a good source of protein and does not get mushy like the Yellow lentils, which I also like. I used to buy them from Whole Foods but I found a better deal on Amazon marketplace from the seller called Angelina's Gourmet. I got a 10lb bag for $18+ $ 8.48 s&h. Defnitely a cheaper protein source than Salmon and Organic meats.

I switched from using white Basmati Rice to Brown Basmati that I buy at the Indian Grocery Store and following is a picture of the grains.




This is something I have had for a few years and my husband used to tease me that I spent money to buy something expensive to only use it twice but of late ( alright this past week) I have been enjoying using this Juicer by Breville.
I hope to make this a lifestyle.

WORDS that break me!

It happened on Thursday this week. This lady who usually has something negative to say to me almost everytime she sees me, comes up to me and touches my mid-section and says to me,"your tummy is big." Then she proceeds to ask me whether I had a C section and when I nodded yes she says along with hand gestures," you are so big and tall."
I can't tell you what her words did to me...it set off this switch in my head...I was totally affected by her words...my daughter did something I didn't like and I ended up yelling at her for 20 mins or so...and it continued the following day when she did something I didn't care for. The mean lady in me just showed up and took control. Thursday night I stuffed my face. Friday I got back on track.
She is from the Philippines and I don't even know her name. She is somebody I run into while I am waiting to pick my daughter up at school. Maybe next time I should tell her how I have heard the 'Pilipinas' eat dogs and cats! We know they eat worms if you have watched Bizzare foods on the Travel channel. I can think of so many mean things to say to her but is that what I want to be, pay kind for kind?! Forgive 70 times 7 according to the Bible...is so hard to do!
I don't want words to affect me BUT it does!

Marathon! Really?!

So I signed up for a half marathon but I am not training for it!! I have not been able to. What am I thinking?! Maybe I can walk 13.1 miles on the day of the marathon. I want to run but most days I am washing dishes, making lunch, nusring a 5 month old, picking up my 6 yr old from school and taking 6yr old to violin lessons, helping with home work, teaching math, prayer time and then bed time. I try and squeeze a 35-45 mins exercise video in there some days! I need to run but I need a 30 hour day.
How do 'those' women do it??
Ahh! God help me manage my time and my energy!

V-Day weigh in #3

So not the big numbers I would have loved to see BUT I am not complaining...the way I ate I thought I would have gained atleast 6 lbs!
I am still not consistent with my workouts.
My goal for the next two weeks
Run 8 days out of 14
Exercise Videos- core and cardio+ strength 7 days out of 14
It goes without saying that I will be doing running and a video on the same day on some days!!
Also to stop eating past 7:30PM!!!!
Next weight in March 1st.

So my weight is not what I would like it to be BUt I am NOT discouraged! I have had a day of chocolate binging thanks to my cycle and also eating a lot of carbs.
So I have lost a little over one LB! I will take it. Hopefully I will have better numbers on Feb 14.

Half Marathon!!

OK! This is the thing, I have never been a runner!! So I registered myself for a half marathon on May 1, 2011.
I am starting training today. I just printed out a 12 wks training program I found online and will follow it with a few modifications.
I have been thinking about this for so long and I registered for it in the end of December but kept quiet about it because I was afraid people would laugh at me and dismiss me. This is my blog and if you read it you will be in on my goal. My husband knows too.

Going on

Saturday I did not work out. Sunday I did a Jillian Michaels Video. Monday the 24th, I did the core synergestics DVD from P90X. It killed me and there were plenty of moves that I could NOt do but I tried hard!
I don't feel any weight coming off me. The last day of Jan I will weigh in.

All or None

After Monday, I worked out today. Three days of nothing. Excuse: My hip was hurting from Monday. Maybe I pulled something. I did two DVDs today. P90X Cardio X and Jillian Michael's Biggest Winner Shape Up Front DVDs. Oh, I could not do justice to all the moves but I managed to hang in there.Thats what I mean by ' all or none!' I either do a lot or nothing at all.
About my diet...I am doing OK...trying to eat home made meals...had rice and kidney beans for dinner tonight. For lunch, spinach lasagne and breakfast a Dunkin Donuts low fat blueberry muffin( not home made:).
I snack on some almonds and raisins and today on a few goldfish( very unusual for me).

Marvelous Monday!

Like I said in the previous post, I started the day out with I cup oat meal+ little 1% milk+ some raisins+ 1tbsp maple syrup+ dash of cinnamon.
Lunch some flounder + asparagus+ tomatoes+ green peas.
Later during the afternoon, one snack bar,
tea with milk, no sugar.
Still later, 2 slices of wheat bread with peanut butter + strawberry jam
Worked out on treadmill about 30 mins
1 egg white
cucumber yogurt
chicken curry+ 2 slices of wheat bread
Hand full of raisins+ roasted salted almonds!


Here is my lunch...it was just perfect! I wish I could make something like this everyday but for more reasons than one it is not always possible.

After reaching 2 miles I did cool down for a few mins. I hope I can do 4 miles by Valentine's day.

Friday, after my offspring's talent show( close to 10:00PM) we took our offsprings to McDonalds...NEVER good! I had the chicken sandwich, double mcburger and fries all from the $ menu and also a large orange juice. Also swiped fries from others at the table:)
Saturday did 40 mins of Turbosculpt by Chalene Johnson from Beachbody.
Sunday ate Domino's chicken sandwich and no exercise.
Started Monday with oatmeal. Will let you know how the rest of my Monday goes.

Starting point on January 14, 2011

Firstly, I am nursing a 4 months old.
I have been overweight for most of my life however since the past two years I have weighed more than I have ever weighed before. Over the last year, during my pregnancy I actually managed to lose some lbs!
I want to lose weight because I would like good health, to see my kids grow up and go to college etc etc.
Ofcourse I want to look good in jeans!
My weight has affected all aspects of my life...I am embarassed to see people I haven't seen in many years...in family gatherings I feel like an eye sore...I lack confidence in a crowd.
Goal:
To lose 10 lbs by Valentine's
To eat my last meal by 8:00PM and not a bite after that
To get 70 mins of exercise a day- treadmill+ videos
To run 4 miles on the treadmill by Valentine's
To control portion sizes


My starting weight is 224.8
This will not be easy by any stretch but life is never going to be easy!!
